In the early days of Disney's film production, modern methods of print advertisement were unavailable.  Instead Disney relied on the color lithography techniques that were prevalent during this period to adequately present the vibrantly animated characters.  By all accounts the contrast of the deep, primary colors provided a simple yet strikingly powerful medium for their promotional efforts.
