Peterhof ("Peter's Palace") was built for Czar Peter the Great in the early 18th Century. Situated on the southern coast of the Gulf of Finland, just outside St Petersburg, it is famous for its beautiful gardens, buildings and pavilions, but most of all for its picturesque fountains and cascades.
